An ideal tour for nature lovers, trekkers and those who want to experience the real jungle, this excursion is all about searching for a variety of wildlife roaming free in the wild.
Sit back and relax on a scenic drive, passing through small villages as you head towards the Tangkoko Nature Reserve — one of Indonesia's most important conservation areas — located about 12 miles northwest of Bitung, among rolling hills and valleys.
Forest rangers accompany you on a trek deep into the jungle in search of a variety of wildlife. Keep your camera at the ready as black-crested macaque (tailless monkeys) and the Tarsius tarsier (the world's smallest primate) are often seen, as well as various kinds of birds, wild pigs and kuskus (large-eyed marsupials).
At the end of your trek, you will reach a black-sand beach. Enjoy some free time to relax on the beach.
An Indonesian snack box and soft drink refreshments are served before you return to the coach and the ship.
Notes:
Tour requires approximately three hours of walking. Terrain includes uneven surfaces and dirt and gravel paths. Travel time to the reserve is approximately one hour each way. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
