Celebrating 80 Years of Discovery:
Rooted in our 80-year history of Alaskan exploration, this Alaska Heritage Tour takes a legendary classic and gives it a fresh twist—combining the iconic sights of our original journeys with new experiences crafted for today's traveler.
Count yourself among the select few to travel by canoe for an encounter with majestic Mendenhall Glacier. This small-group outing includes a maximum of 19 privileged guests.
You will paddle a traditional Tlingit-style canoe — a stable 38-foot watercraft with modern safety gear supplied. Paddle across Mendenhall Lake, navigating past icebergs, surrounded by one of the richest microcosms of Alaskan wildlife you'll find anywhere. Venture within a safe distance of the massive, awe-inspiring face of the living Mendenhall Glacier and keep an eye out for wildlife, including bald eagles, Arctic terns, goats, salmon, otters, bears, and more.
Grab a thrill ride by skirting the base of beautiful and mighty Nugget Falls, where you will go ashore to refuel with a snack of Alaskan-style fare for the return trip.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring extra socks. Minimum weight is 40 lbs. Waterproof rain gear is provided. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. This is a hands-on activity that requires participants to paddle for extended periods.
