Elevate your visit to Icy Strait Point with a ride on the Sky Peak Gondola (the red gondola). Walk onto the gondola car and gently glide through the forest as the high-speed, eight-passenger car whisks you to new heights. Ascend to the top of Hoonah Mountain to see the wilds of Alaska from a bird's-eye perspective.
Looking out at Glacier Bay, the ancestral homeland of the Tlingit people, and Icy Strait Point, you will see why — at 1,500 feet in elevation — this location is known for its breathtaking views.
Walk through the lush Tongass National Forest and experience the unspoiled Alaska wilderness, or stop by the top of the ZipRider and feel the adrenaline of riders preparing to take flight. You can also enjoy a half-mile round-trip walk to view a beautiful mountain meadow and pond. Keep an eye out for bears, eagles, and deer. At the top, gather around a cozy mountaintop campfire where all the fixings for s'mores are provided. Roast marshmallows, melt chocolate, and enjoy this sweet treat in the fresh mountain air.
Rides are unlimited and allow you to explore Icy Strait Point and the mountaintop at your leisure.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Take the complimentary Transporter Gondola (the green gondola) to access the base of the Sky Peak Gondola (the red gondola). On daytime calls, the Sky Peak Gondola operates at 8am, with the mountaintop campfire opening at 10am.
