Escape to Bakers' Paradise to celebrate stunning scenery and delicious Norwegian waffles.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery on a panoramic drive passing picturesque lakes and farmland en route to the small settlement at Lauvvik. On the banks of the magnificent Lysefjord, discover the delightful and idyllic Bakers' Paradise. Originally a smallholding comprised of a house and barn, the farm was purchased by the Bakers' Union in the 1920s, and it became a getaway for those in the trade.
Admire a fantastic view of the fjord and surrounding mountains while you savor freshly-made waffles served with sour cream, jam and coffee.
Enjoy some free time to admire this brilliant natural setting and browse in the old house, which has been carefully restored. A small gift shop showcases local artisan products, including interior decor, local delicacies, and fresh-baked pastries. Feel free to try your hand at some typical Norwegian activities, such as fishing from the pier or throwing horseshoes.
On your return drive, you'll pass through both Sandnes and Stavanger. Pause at an overhanging viewpoint to see Sandnes from above. Sverd i Fjell — the towering Swords in Rock Monument —was unveiled by King Olav in 1983 to commemorate the Battle of Hafrsfjord in AD 872.
Notes:
There is approximately 1½ hours of free time given to explore independently. The ground is uneven in parts with some inclines to negotiate.
