Depart from Pichilingue and, as you travel to La Paz, you will see the surrounding desert as an intriguing, extremely beautiful ecosystem full of endless surprises. Over centuries, its flora and fauna have evolved endemic characteristics due to its relative isolation. Strange-looking valleys contain cardon and pitaya cacti, elephant trees and thorny chollas forming a spiny green carpet on the sandy earth. Hawks, wrens, woodpeckers, roadrunners and Xantus hummingbirds live here, as well as desert bighorn, foxes, coyotes, pumas, desert mice and squirrels.
In La Paz (the City of Peace), follow the beautiful boardwalk to admire the sculptures that have come to symbolize the region's history and cultural treasures.
You will also visit the Museum of Anthropology & History to see exhibits from the Sea of Cortez pearl industry and Baja California.
Explore with your guide the lovely Cathedral Nuestra Señora de La Paz, built in 1861 atop the ruins of a 140-year-old Jesuit Mission. The cathedral's interior boasts beautiful stained-glass windows.
At a family-owned pottery factory, browse for handmade decorative items, glazed tiles, and tableware.

Minimum age is 7 years. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces and two flights of stairs at the museum; no elevator is available. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Mexican air conditioning is not the same as in the USA and Canada — it may feel warmer.
