This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair. Experience the beauty of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril — the Royal playground triumvirate. This fully accessible tour combines history, culture, and natural beauty, offering an unforgettable experience at a relaxed pace, perfect for travelers with mobility needs.
Your journey starts with an exterior visit to the Queluz Palace, a former royal summer retreat known for its beautiful gardens and remarkable acoustics. Admire the Palace from the outside.
Sintra, with its blend of ancient heritage and stunning natural landscapes, has captivated poets, writers, and royalty for centuries. Notably, Lord Byron referred to it as the "Garden of Eden on Earth." Step back in time and explore the magic of this historic region. Within the old village of Sintra, from the main square, you will see Vila Palace with its two distinctive cone-shaped chimneys. Take a gentle stroll/roll along some of the narrow alleys packed with shops selling regional products.
Next, head to Cabo da Roca — the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Take in breathtaking views of the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean.
The charming town of Cascais welcomes you. It is known for its royal connections, as many with a royal pedigree took refuge here during World War II. Today, Cascais retains a unique, timeless charm.
Returning to Lisbon, you'll pass through Estoril — a glamorous destination favored by European royals and socialites in the latter half of the 20th century. Follow the Portuguese coastline and beaches en route back to Lisbon.
Notes:
This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). Companions can book the same tour under the title Accessible Lisbon Royal Views: Sintra, Cascais & Estoril (Companion). The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Guests requiring accessible transportation, please complete the Special Services form at https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
