This tour offers a sneak peek inside Plantation House -- the residence of St Helena's Governor, built in 1792.
The on-site manager guides you through the home and brings to life the history of the building, highlighting the various occupants and functions it has served over the years. You will see a number of the 35 rooms within the house, including the Governor's office, the library, the formal dining room and others.
Jonathan the tortoise -- the island's oldest resident -- still lives in the garden and has seen many Governors come and go. With luck, you may catch a glimpse of him during your visit.
Notes:
Tour operates at a gentle pace; however, participants must negotiate a few steps to enter the building. The coach ride unguided; a local guide awaits you at each stop to provide information and answer questions. The level of guide experience varies on St Helena due to the remoteness of its location. Limited tourism infrastructure is part of the charm here, and you are trading breadth of experience for authentic interaction. Please bring your spirit of adventure and bear with any language difficulties your guide may encounter and with any operational surprises that may crop up.
