This easy and interesting sightseeing tour visits one of the most secluded areas of the island.
Aboard an air-conditioned motorcoach, enjoy spectacular views of the lush island of Roatán while your guide briefs you on the island's history and culture. Along the way, you will pass through fishing villages and stop for photos at various points of interest.
Journeying up and down the hills, admire the amazing views as you drive along the coastline to Punta Gorda. This is where most of the Garifuna population lives -- descendants of the African slaves who came here in 1797. Watch a traditional dance and enjoy the heady drumbeat. Sample a taste of kazabe yucca bread.
See the romantic stilt village of Oak Ridge from a nearby viewpoint. Once the domain of pirates, Oak Ridge is now home to family-owned fishing companies that, after many decades, are still a major source of revenue for the islands.
Since opening its doors in 1967, the Buccaneer has been at the center of life in the fishing village of French Harbour. Today it functions as a cultural museum with a history walk that encapsulates more than 1,500 years of human presence in the archipelago. Visit the shops and relax on the beautiful promenade. Swim in the Splash Lagoon -- a natural saltwater oasis extending into the Caribbean Sea. A jam-tasting session is offered on-site.
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, a cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat.
