Take in the most fascinating sights of Bangkok. First you may possibly drive through Chinatown, which has been an important commercial center in Bangkok for more than 200 years. Enjoy a drive through the city and stop by the Pak-Klong-Talad flower market for a brief visit. Afterwards, you’ll head to the grounds of the Royal Palace. Today the buildings are used only for state functions and royal ceremonies. Visit the Temple of the Emerald Buddha—the most ornate temple in Thailand, with murals, statues and glittering gold. The centerpiece is Buddha’s image carved from a single piece of jade, almost two feet tall. See the Golden Chedi, the Pantheon of Kings and the Towers of Nine Planets before moving on. A short transfer to a local dining venue for your lunch buffet. Time permitting, you can browse at a gem factory and a souvenir store en route before a transfer back to the ship.
Notes:
Some part of the Grand Palace are restricted to visitors so not all buildings are open. Dusit Mahaprasat and the Audience Hall of Amarin Winitchai are closed on Saturday & Sundays and can be viewed only from outside of the halls. Modest attire is required for visiting temples; no fitted or collarless tops are allowed; shirts/blouses must cover shoulders; trousers must cover ankles; shorts and mini-skirts are not permitted. You must remove your shoes when entering the chapel. Wear comfortable walking shoes. 8mm movie cameras and still cameras are permitted within the palace grounds but may not be used inside buildings. Approximately one mile of walking is required at the palace. Minimum age is 6 years. The Emerald Buddha temple OR the Grand Palace, even though being within the same vicinity, may be closed in part or as a whole without any prior notice given due to Royal functions.
