This excursion draws you closer to the sights and scents of Georgetown, offering an experience that is uniquely Malaysian. Come and see Penang through the back door--experience Chinatown and negotiate a deal with the Malay, Chinese and Indian folks at the flea market, also know as the Thief Market! Wander among the 80 odd stalls that deal with anything and everything. You will be amazed by the variety of things you can find here. The items range from household things that are more than 50 years old to today's electronic gadgets. Best of all are the prices--incredibly low! You may end up with an antique or collector's coin for as low as ten ringgit. Your next adventure is to visit Kek Lok Si Temple. This is the largest Chinese Temple in Southeast Asia, and is located on a hill slope with a commanding view of Georgetown. Adjourn for lunch before you spend some time shopping in a leading department store to take advantage of the duty free prices. You'll also step inside the Fused Glasswork Gallery. Pieces of glass are cut (blanks) to shape and placed over moulds and fired in a kiln. Various oxides and coloring agents are used, melting either within or on the surface of the glass. Pick up one of these fused-glass pieces to display in your home if you wish!
