On this fascinating tour of Taipei, you’ll visit a traditional market, learn to make xiaolongbao, the iconic soup dumplings that have been called a "famed delicacy," and see some of the city’s most notable landmarks. This is a rare opportunity to experience both new and old Taipei and sample the city through its food.
After an atmospheric panoramic drive from the port of Keelung, you’ll arrive at a traditional market where locals shop for food, clothes, and even kitchen utensils. Unlike a supermarket, there’s no air-conditioning, and as you stroll along, you’ll hear vendors passionately marketing their goods and warmly greeting shoppers. Here, your tour guide will help you find the ingredients for making xiaolongbao.
Next, you’ll drive to the celebrated dim-sum restaurant Ding Tai Fung, where Tom Cruise famously learned to make xiaolongbao. A cook is waiting to teach you how to make your own xiaolongbao. These pork dumplings traditionally contain minced pork wrapped in a delicate dough that is pleated and twisted at the top. Enjoy lunch while your dumplings are sent to steam, then finally, you’ll taste the xiaolongbao you made with your own hands.
Watch for some of Taipei’s most impressive sights, including a photo stop at the skyscraper Taipei 101 -- the world’s third-tallest building. Take photos at the grand Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall building memorializing the late president.
