Begin your day with ease with a pick-up for you and your luggage directly from the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica in Reykjavik. It's a transfer to the ship with a difference, as you will have a wonderful day of sightseeing en route.
Drive over the Mosfellsheidi heath to beautiful Thingvellir UNESCO National Park, a place of tremendous interest as a primary site of both Iceland’s geological and historical heritage. Walk through the geological fault known as Almannagja - the place where Europe’s oldest national legislative assembly, the Icelandic Althing, was established in the year 930 AD, and where it convened in grandiose surroundings every summer for nearly eight centuries.
After your walk in Thingvellir, continue over the Lyngdalsheidi heath into the fertile farmlands of the south, to visit the most beautiful waterfall of Iceland, Gullfoss. Nearby, you’ll also stop at the Geysir geothermal area with its multitude of hot springs, where the most active one, Strokkur, spouts every few minutes.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
Returning through the Grimsnes region you will pass Hveragerdi village, where geothermal water has been used to build up an extensive greenhouse industry.
Relax on the return journey back to Reykjavik ending with a very convenient drop-off at your ship at the pier in Reykjavik.
Notes
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise begins in Reykjavik. The pick-up location for all participants is the Hilton Reykjavik Nordica located at Suðurlandsbraut 2, 108 Reykjavík. Do not enter the hotel lobby; a representative with a Holland America sign will be stationed curbside to assist with guest registration and luggage check. The Hilton Reykjavik Nordica in Reykjavik is the only pick-up point for this tour; there are no additional pick-up points. If you are staying elsewhere, you are responsible for making your own way to the hotel with your luggage, at your own expense. All participants must be at the meeting point at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled tour departure time, as the coach will leave on time. Tour must be booked a minimum of four calendar days prior to your cruise embarkation date. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Guests who prefer to stay on the coach may do so at most stops; however, all guests must leave the coach during the driver's break. Participants must be able to negotiate a few steps to (dis)embark the coach.
