Learn all about the history and modern-day life of this rugged Arctic town on a panoramic drive that introduces you to the city.
Step inside the new Northern Lights Cathedral. This stunning piece of architecture embodies the surrounding nature and local culture. It is a landmark that symbolizes an extraordinary natural phenomenon of the Arctic —the Northern Lights (aurora borealis). The significance of the Aurora is reflected in the architecture of the cathedral — the contours of the church rise as a spiraling shape to the tip of the belfry, 154 feet above the ground. The façade, clad in titanium, reflects the Northern Lights during the long Arctic winter, emphasizing the experience of this phenomenon.
Notes:
The church is closed on Sundays from 10am to 1pm. Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Stops (if any) are brief, and participants can remain in the vehicle. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation.
