Puerto Vallarta blooms with artistic color and Mexico's warm charm. It's also one of the best places to experience tequila and find out how this spirit's legacy goes far beyond the margarita. See some of this seaside city's highlights, taste one of its most famous exports, and sample other rare spirits that are hard to find anywhere else.
Your tour begins with a short panoramic drive through downtown to the Malecon -- the waterfront. Set out on a one-hour walking tour to view the many sculptures along the waterfront and take in ocean views.
Visit the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe and, in complete contrast, a local candy factory and shop.
From here, drive to La Dulce Vista, a boutique villa hidden in a mountainside river canyon known for growing its own fruits, vegetables and herbs. An acclaimed local chef shows off some serious culinary skills.
In the adjacent Palapa Bar, meet the mixologist and taste a few cocktails with the house brand of raicilla -- a sweet spirit that is the funky cousin of tequila. Creative cocktails and delicious infusions incorporate exotic flavors.
An authentic Mexican lunch features fresh guacamole made with "Olé!" by a table-side chef.
Purchase some raicilla if you wish, swim in the gorgeous swimming pool or sit in the jacuzzi before heading back to the ship.
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk.
