A Heart for Community
Connect with the heart and soul of a vibrant community. Whether you're meeting friendly locals, encountering heirloom cultures, engaging with Native peoples, exploring hidden corners, or discovering beloved eateries, let lasting memories begin with warmth, hospitality, and genuine connection
Today offers a chance to give back to the sea, which has provided access to so many beautiful, fun experiences on your cruise. You'll join a group of local marine biologists whose goal is to restore the local coral reefs. Your participation helps support the Coral Farms program, allowing the Cozumel Coral Reef Restoration organization to continue its efforts to replenish coral reefs and educate and empower others to take care of our oceans. Coral reefs are among the most diverse ecosystems on the planet.
The day begins with an introduction from a reef specialist who will share insights about coral biology, reef ecology, and the challenges coral reefs face today. Through interactive displays and educational exhibits, you’ll explore how corals reproduce and how restoration programs help cultivate young corals that may one day contribute to the recovery of nearby reefs. The main focus of this experience is on learning and supporting conservation work, while understanding the role that responsible tourism plays in protecting marine ecosystems. Depending on the needs of the day, you may also participate in activities such as shore restoration, cleaning efforts, or other activities that help maintain healthy coastal environments.
Next, enjoy a guided snorkel in the clear Caribbean waters where you can observe two decades of reef restoration efforts and a thriving marine ecosystem, appreciating and enjoying at the same time while minimizing our impacts. Rinse off and relax on the beach -- a restaurant and bar sell great local food and drinks (at your own expense).
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel. The National Marine Park of Cozumel forbids the use of chemical sun protection if entering the water. Only UV protective clothing (rash guard) is permitted for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Minimum age is 8 years.
