The Port of Newcastle is one of the world's leading ports, with more than 4,600 vessel movements per year. With a rich maritime history, it has been in operation for more than 200 years.
Take the shuttle into the city and meet your guide there.
Step aboard a boat on the Honeysuckle Foreshore and, from the water, you'll explore Australia's third-largest port on a 1½-hour cruise.
Then, head out along the scenic Hunter Coastline, viewing many of Newcastle's key destination landmarks along the way. Keep an eye out for the marine life that inhabits the coastline and for some interesting aspects of local geology, as the crew interprets the surroundings for you.
Remnants of Aboriginal heritage, shipwrecks, ocean baths, sheer cliffs and maritime traffic are all part of the tableau here.
Return to the dock and take the shuttle back to the ship. Time permitting, guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
Bring a jacket as it can be cooler on the water. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
