Erewhon sheep station is one of New Zealand's most historic and iconic farms, located in the heart of the South Island high country. Its sheer isolation and magnificent alpine setting are unsurpassed in New Zealand. On this full-day excursion, you'll literally journey to the end of the road, where few New Zealanders have ever ventured.
Travel across the vast Canterbury Plains -- the largest area of flat land in New Zealand.
Climbing into the stunning Canterbury high country with its rugged mountain ranges, crystal blue lakes and fresh crisp mountain air, you'll stop at Lake Clearwater for photos down the lake to the mountains in the distance.
Passing the site of Edoras -- a famous Lord of the Rings location on Mt Sunday -- you'll pause for a photo.
At the end of the road, you'll find Erewhon Station (farm) and meet the owners of the property. Colin and Erin farm Merino sheep, Hereford cattle and fallow deer. They also operate a large Clydesdale stud facility. A lot of the work on the property is still undertaken using the Clydesdale horses for towing wagons and working the fields by towing plows.
Your time at the property includes a wagon ride drawn by a Clydesdale horse, watching a working horse demonstration and enjoying a delicious picnic lunch in the mountains.
Notes:
