Board a motorcoach to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Stop at Vista Point for photos at the bridge’s northern end for views of San Francisco Bay, the city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel and Yerba Buena Islands, Berkeley, Oakland and downtown San Francisco.
Next, enjoy a panoramic drive to Sausalito, passing Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, and the Cannery bustling with boutiques, restaurants, and tourists. Lastly, you’ll head to Alcatraz ferry landing and board the boat to Alcatraz Island.
A National Park Ranger introduces the infamous Alcatraz Prison. Alcatraz Island became a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in 1934, holding notable criminals such as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud (the Birdman of Alcatraz) and George Machine Gun Kelly. It has also been the setting for many films such as The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage, Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood and The Birdman of Alcatraz with Burt Lancaster. The tour at Alcatraz is a self-guided audio tour, which leads you through the small cells, with an opportunity to snap a few photos and view a documentary on the history of Alcatraz. Your tour concludes with a ferry back to the Embarcadero and a short walk back to the ship.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Alcatraz can be congested. No guarantee is offered concerning visibility or views on any particular day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary and are beyond the tour operator's control. The tour is non-refundable unless canceled ten days prior to the call at San Francisco. The tour may be operated in reverse order.
