Set out on an unforgettable Seal Safari to the legendary Seal Rocks on Santa Catalina Island, home to one of the largest and liveliest sea lion colonies in the region. This dramatic stretch of coastline, with its rugged rock formations and crashing surf, creates the perfect natural gathering place where California sea lions come to rest, play, and socialize.
Your adventure begins the moment you step aboard your small-group boat, where ocean views, sea breezes, and tasty snacks set the tone for the journey ahead. As you cruise southeast from Avalon Bay, your knowledgeable guide will point out scenic highlights, share fascinating island stories, and prepare you for the incredible wildlife encounters to come.
The trip to Seal Rocks feels like a true ocean safari. Keep an eye out for dolphins racing alongside the boat, seasonal whales passing offshore, and a variety of marine life gliding beneath the surface, from stingrays to the occasional sea turtle. Overhead, seabirds swoop and dive, adding to the sense of adventure. Throughout the journey, your crew offers engaging insights that bring the marine world to life.
Arriving at Seal Rocks is a breathtaking moment. This remote outcrop is Catalina’s premier hotspot for sea lion activity, where dozens—sometimes hundreds—gather in their natural habitat. Watch them stretch out across sun-warmed rocks, bark and interact with one another, and slip gracefully through the water. Many are curious enough to swim right up near the boat, giving you remarkable close-up views. Depending on the season, you may even spot young pups learning to navigate the waves. The energy and movement of this thriving colony create a wild, unforgettable spectacle.
