Snæfellsjökull Glacier's Diamond by Snowcat tour is a spectacular sightseeing excursion that explores one of Iceland's most impressive glaciers.
Snæfellsjökull rises 4,744 feet (1,446 m) skyward and is the very same glacier-topped volcano that Jules Verne claimed had a passage leading to the Earth's core in his popular novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. The Norse believed that it was one of the Earth's seven sources of spiritual energy.
On a panoramic drive via a mountain pass, you'll reach the town of Arnarstapi. Switch to the vehicle that will take you to the foot of Snæfellsjökull Glacier and then to a snowcat for the journey to the top of the glacier. The ride up is slow, and there will likely be some stops on the way. At the top, leave the snowcat to walk around in the crisp, fresh air.
It's a faster descent with the snowcat; then, transfer back to your transportation and return to Grundarfjörður.
