In Rome, you will visit the legendary Catacombs — a curious underground maze of tunnels where the early Christians were buried. This is essentially a vast underground cemetery — a series of subterranean passageways that form real labyrinths that are several miles long.
A wealth of beautiful countryside lies in the Roman Hills. You will follow the Appian Way, one of the earliest ancient Roman military roads, into the campagna (countryside) dotted with farmhouses, villas, and palaces. Travel southeast of Rome and enjoy an outside view of Castel Gandolfo, a picturesque village nestled in the Alban Hills.
In Rome's wine-growing hinterland, visit the Monte Due Torri farmhouse, which is located among the Albani Hills. A member of the household will greet you and offer an introduction to the property. Upon entering the home, you will be invited to assist with pasta-making.
Enjoy a lunch of local products — homemade bread, wine, fresh mixed salad, pasta, and dessert.
Notes:
Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, and many steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Ongoing restoration and/or maintenance work may be underway at any venue during your visit. The catacombs are in an underground tunnel, not advisable for guests with claustrophobia. Tour sequence may vary. Dietary restrictions must be communicated to the Shore Excursions team 72 hours prior.
