Náfplion is one of Greece's prettiest towns. The towering Palamidi Fortress dominates its setting, and the narrow streets of the Old Town are filled with elegant Venetian houses and graceful neo-Classical mansions.
Your walking tour begins at the pier as you marvel at the port's beautiful neo-Classical buildings.
You're headed to Kapodistriou Square and the park dedicated to Kolokotronis -- the leader of Greece during the War of Independence.
The beloved Palamidi Fortress is in the background, and across the way is the current Town Hall building, which originally housed the first high school in Greece.
Continuing through back streets not usually seen by visitors, you will find the Old Catholic Church and, just below it, the Church of Agios Spyridon, built in 1702.
The worry beads you see everywhere in Greece have a museum dedicated to them in Náfplion -- step inside the Museum of Komboloi to learn of their origin.
Next, proceed through the popular Syntagma Square (Constitution Square) to visit the spectacular display of folk costumes and traditional textile-producing techniques at the Popular Art Museum -- winner of the 1981 European Museum of the Year award.
