Experience some of the Big Island’s most beloved natural attractions, local flavors, and authentic Hawaiian hospitality on this scenic journey through Hawaii's lush eastern and southern coastlines.
Your adventure begins with a narrated drive through historic Hilo, Hawaii’s largest small town. Travel along the picturesque waterfront while learning about the area's rich history, culture, and connection to the ocean.
Your first stop is Rainbow Falls, one of the island’s most famous waterfalls. Cascading approximately 80 feet over a natural lava cave, the falls are known for the colorful rainbows that often appear in the mist on sunny mornings. Enjoy time to take photographs, admire the tropical surroundings, and learn about the Hawaiian legends associated with this beautiful location.
Next, visit Lili House Family Farm, a locally owned farm where you'll be welcomed by the resident family and introduced to their agricultural operation. During a guided farm visit, learn about life on a working Hawaiian farm while meeting a variety of friendly animals. Guests will have opportunities to interact with and pet some of the animals while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of this unique countryside experience.
Continue south through the scenic Ka‘u District to Ka‘u Coffee Mill, home to some of Hawaii’s award-winning coffee. Discover the journey from coffee bean to cup as you learn about the growing, harvesting, roasting, and production processes. Enjoy samples of locally produced coffee and browse the gift shop featuring coffee and island-made products. A deli-style picnic lunch is included during your visit.
After lunch, travel to the spectacular Punalu‘u Black Sand Beach, one of Hawaii's most recognizable coastal landscapes. Formed by ancient volcanic activity, the jet-black sand creates a striking contrast against the blue Pacific Ocean and swaying coconut palms. Enjoy time to walk along the shoreline, take photographs, and watch for honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles), which are frequently spotted resting on the beach or swimming in the nearshore waters. Please note that swimming is not permitted due to strong surf and potentially dangerous rip currents.
Before returning to port, make a final stop to browse a selection of Hawaiian specialties, including locally grown macadamia nuts, island snacks, handcrafted gifts, and souvenirs—perfect for taking a piece of Hawaii home with you.

Minimum age is 5 years. Children 9 years and under require a car seat, per Hawaii state law; the tour operator can supply a child safety or booster seat at no charge with advance notice to the Shore Excursions team on board. Wear closed-toe shoes (mandatory). Participants must be able to walk over uneven terrain and climb stairs without assistance. Guests with a heart, back or neck condition are not allowed to participate.
