Enjoy a scenic journey from the pier in Valparaíso to the capital of Chile. Santiago de Chile is a city of enormous contrast. With remnants of its colonial past to the ultramodern, high-rise buildings of the financial center, this metropolis will surprise you.
Begin by heading south through the downtown area, passing the Club Hípico -- a manicured horseracing track in the older residential area of the city.
Proceed alongside the Parque O’Higgins and the Cousiño Palace, built between 1870 and 1878 for the wealthy Cousiño family. See the lively Plaza de Armas, the city’s main square. From here, you’ll take the famous Alameda -- Santiago’s colorful main avenue, crossing the Mapocho River to visit the bohemian Bellavista district.
Stop at the Los Dominicos handicraft market in the Las Condes district, built like a small village with numerous handicraft shops. You will find artisans working in copper, wool, ceramics, lapis lazuli and other indigenous materials. Enjoy a stroll and some time for shopping.
Lunch will be served at a typical local restaurant.
In the late afternoon you will transfer to Santiago Airport in time for your flight or to the Sheraton Santiago Hotel.
Notes:
This option is available only to guests whose cruise ends in Valparaíso, with flights departing after 9pm, and to guests who have booked through Holland America Line a post-cruise stay at Sheraton Santiago Hotel. If you have already purchased an airport/hotel transfer with your cruise booking, it will be refunded on board the ship, as this excursion automatically includes a transfer.
