Depart Richards Bay and travel north on the N2 National Road. After a 1½-hour drive, you'll arrive at the beautiful and action-packed Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. The reserve shelters not only the wildlife of Zululand but also boasts the indefinable charm and tradition of the natural surroundings in one of the most fascinating parts of Africa.
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi is well known for its small population of the rare white rhino and a spectacular variety of bird and animal life, including elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, cheetah, mountain reedbuck, kudu and warthog. During an open-vehicle game drive, you will likely encounter many of these stunning animals close up.
Enjoy a barbecue lunch, surrounded by beautiful scenery.
This afternoon, continue on another exciting two-hour game drive en-route to the Memorial Gate. Exit the park and return to the pier in Richards Bay, two hours away.
Notes:
Guests are not permitted to use cell phones during the game drive. Guests are also not permitted to speak loudly or stand up in the game drive vehicle, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted. Guests with mobility problems could encounter difficulties getting in and out of the open vehicle. The roads in the game reserve are gravel. There are also inclines and certain parts of the game drive can be bumpy. Not suitable for guests with back or neck problems. Wear comfortable clothing; bring binoculars and water. Bring a hat; wear sunscreen and sunglasses. Minimum age is 6 years. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
