Depart the pier and enjoy beautiful views of enchanting countryside with lush river valleys and gently rolling hills delight on the 45-minute journey to Mpongo Private Game Reserve.
Home to four of the Big Five game animals, these 8,600 acres of conservation land and private reserve is surrounded by rolling hills and verdant valleys. The name of the reserve, Mpongo, is taken from the nearby Umpongo River, which has deep significance for the Xhosa community. Once at the reserve, settle in to an open-air 4x4 vehicle and set off with your knowledgeable guide for a two-hour game-viewing expedition in search of lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, elephant, giraffe, antelope and over 225 species of birds, including ostrich.
Return to the main entrance for a comfort stop before returning to port.
Notes:
Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations, as getting into and out of the game vehicles can present a significant challenge. The game drive vehicle may not be covered. Bring a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and binoculars. Ride will be bumpy. Guests with back or neck problems are not allowed to participate. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Guests are not permitted to use cellular phones on or during the game drives. Guests are also not permitted to speak loudly or stand up on the game drive vehicles, as this will disturb the animals and minimize your opportunity for a close encounter. Due to the size of the reserve, it is unable to accommodate "free-roaming cats" and the lions are therefore currently housed in fenced enclosures. The same applies to the wild dogs. Wildlife sightings are likely but not guaranteed.
