Balmoral Castle is a true gem in the Aberdeenshire crown. It has been owned by the royal family since Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, purchased it in 1852. The house is now the private property of the King and is not part of the Crown Estate. During your visit, hear stories about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.
Next, head to Braemar to visit the World Highland Games Centre. It's here that you will learn about the Highland Games and disciplines such as the caber toss, the tug of war, and the hammer throw.
Journey to the town of Ballater — once home to a Royal Rail Station where Queen Victoria would join a carriage that would take her up to Balmoral. The whole town is a magical place, perched on the River Dee, with a very special charm. Enjoy some free time to purchase lunch and to explore independently.
Please note: Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. Travel time to Balmoral Castle is approximately two hours each way. Tour requires approximately 1½ hours of walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, gravel, and steps.
