Experience the thrill of underwater discovery as well as a chance to explore and shop in the quaint West End Village. An approximately 30-minute drive will bring you to a beautiful bay where you will board a semi-submarine for an amazing ride. The semi-sub is not submerged; instead, you will descend a few steps into the underwater observatory boat from which you can view the treasures of the deep while you are seated in air-conditioned comfort. Your guide will explain the underwater environment, as you observe beautiful coral formations, living reef, and colorful tropical fish, without getting wet. Your next stop is at West End village. At a private location on the waterfront, you will watch the Garifuna Dancers perform their culturally important dance called the Punta. The Garifuna culture dates back to the early 1600s when British vessels carrying African slaves were sunk off the coast and the survivors who came ashore merged culturally with the indigenous Honduran people. Browse in the stores along the coastline, and enjoy a cup of Honduran coffee, lemonade or iced tea. You’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs; then, last but not least, you’ll visit the only Cameo Factory in the Americas. During this demonstration admire how conch shells are transformed into art and, if you like, purchase cameo pieces, handmade bracelets, rings and necklaces in gold and silver.
Please note: Current road conditions due to construction may change the stop at West End Village with a stop to Pirate Bay-Las Palmas Village. There are eight steps to get in and out the semi-sub. If during the tour the weather conditions preclude the semi-sub boat ride, a visit to the Roatán Museum and Institute of Marine Science will be substituted, with a partial refund.
