Taipei is a shining example of a modern city. Take its lively nighttime pulse with an evening excursion to a trio of popular sites.
First on the itinerary is Taipei 101, one of the world’s most stunning skyscrapers. Completed in 2004, this architectural marvel resembles a stalk of bamboo featuring 101 floors above ground, five below and a luxury shopping center. For eye-popping 360-degree views of the city, take an elevator to the 89th floor and step out onto the observation deck.
Next, you’ll wander through the Raohe Street Night Market -- 600 yards of shops and stands exemplifying Taiwanese character. Don’t miss the chance to taste the most popular street food -- the black pepper bun. The can’t-go-wrong combination of tender pork, black pepper, spices, and green onions in a bread shell that is crispy yet chewy is just sublime. The Raohe Street Tourist Night Market is one of the oldest night markets in Taipei. Mingle with locals as you stroll past stands selling food, clothes and souvenirs.
At the eastern end of the night market is the Ciyou Temple dating back to the Qing Dynasty.
Notes:
Bring local currency, as most night-market vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
