This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair. It offers a perfect glimpse of the charm of Provence and the city of Marseille.
Meet your guide and accessible van for an enjoyable, short panoramic drive to your first stop of the day, Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica. This breathtaking basilica sits on a hill overlooking the city and is the perfect spot for some wonderful photos of Marseille. Escorted by your tour guide, you will enter the basilica and admire the extravagant interior as you learn more about the history of the site.
Next, a leisurely stroll/roll takes you past several highlights of the city, including the extravagant Town Hall and the Old Town. As you make your way along the old, pedestrianized streets and see the ancient buildings, you will feel like you've stepped back in time to the heyday of this charming old French port.
At the entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, see the 1660 Fort Saint-Jean, built by Louis XIV. Explore the fortification's accessible parts and enjoy spectacular views.
Notes:
This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). Companions can book the same tour under the title Accessible Marseilles Old Port and Basilica Notre Dame de la Garde (Companion). The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Guests requiring accessible transportation, please complete the Special Services form at https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
