Leaving the bustling port of Castries behind, travel by coach through the winding streets towards the Morne Viewpoint. Lush greenery and colorful houses seem to climb the Morne hills for which St Lucia is so famous. The viewshed also includes Castries Harbor and the island's northern landscape.
Continue in the direction of St Mark's -- an old colonial-style house situated at a strategic point with a breathtaking view. You'll see Castries Harbor nestled between the blue sea and the green background of the hills -- quite charming. In optimal weather and viewing conditions, Martinique's north coast is visible in the distance. Tour the home for a glimpse of the colonial Caribbean life of yesteryear. Snacks and a tasty rum punch or fruit juice will be served indoors.
Your next stop is at Howelton Estate -- a store that has a great reputation for its marvelous Batik prints. Located on Old Victoria Road, this store offers a wide range of different fabrics and crafts to satisfy many tastes. Watch the artisans at work, creating these colorful fabrics with a live Batik demonstration.
A panoramic drive through the island's countryside brings you to Fond Latisab Creole Park. Learn how to make cassava bread or how to cook on the leaves of macambo (the cacao tree). Enjoy the rhythms and sounds of a shak-shak band (a typical instrument). Diving into this fun 'Kweyol' experience makes for great memories.
