Make the most of your day on the Big Island.
Visit Kona’s Painted Church, set in a quiet country village and known for its dramatic murals.
Travel to Pu’uhonua o Honaunau, or the Place of Refuge. This well maintained National Historic Park was a refuge where absolution would be granted for ancient Hawaiian law-breakers and vanquished warriors if they were fortunate enough to get here ahead of their pursuers. Today, the park features attractive grounds and interesting displays of Hawaiian artifacts.
Enjoy a short visit to Ali’i Gardens on the Kona coast where you will find local artisans, handcrafted goods, and the authentic spirit of Hawaii all in one place. Experience the heart of the local community as vendors share their passion, craft, and story before returning to the pier.
Notes:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Painted Church is not open for group visits on Sundays due to church services. Additional time will be spent at the other venues in place of this if the tour occurs on a Sunday. Ali'i Gardens Marketplace is closed on Monday's. Additional time will be spent at the other venues.
