Board a vintage double-decker bus for a brief transfer to the Halifax Citadel. A red-coated Highlander greets you at the front gate and leads you on a nocturnal journey into the haunted history of Halifax Citadel.
Walk by candlelight through restricted areas of Canada's most haunted historic site. Your guide tells eerie (and true!) tales of unexplained events in each location. Descending through dimly lit passageways to the shadowy inner chambers, stick close to your guide in case a sinister apparition lurks around the corner. You'll pass through ditches, walk along cobblestone alleyways, and peer over the ramparts. Dark tunnels lead to prison cells that once housed hapless soldiers convicted of minor offenses.
Take a seat in one of the citadel's historic rooms. The Halifax Citadel has paired with Compass Distillery -- Halifax's only grain-to-glass distillery -- to create an exceptional series of spirits, including the Noon-Gun Gin with 12 botanicals aged in oak barrels; Daily Ration Rum made using Crosby's molasses and sugar; and Fort George Genever -- an early ancestor of gin made from a mash of Nova Scotian rye, corn and malted barley with caraway, cinnamon, frankincense and pink peppercorn. Your Highlander guide leads you through a tasting of these spirits paired with locally-produced charcuterie treats .
