Start this engaging half-day tour with a picturesque panoramic drive along the Tasman Peninsula, which wows with stunning ocean views and densely forested areas. A short distance away is the aromatic Port Arthur Lavender Farm. Set on 18 acres with 6,000 plants, the lavender farm develops a large range of lavender products. During your free time learn about the manufacturing process, smell the calming scent of one of nature's finest fragrances, and sit down for an enjoyable morning snack of scones served with lavender cream. Take in serene coastal views, stroll about the farm, check out the essential oil distillery, and browse in the gift shop filled with lavender products. Make sure you sample some lavender fudge and chocolates made on the premises.
Pirates' Bay Lookout is a magnificent vantage point for viewing some of Australia's most dazzling tableaux. Snap pictures of the Tasman Peninsula's dreamlike curves, cliffs and colors, with glorious beach and coastal views that appear to extend to infinity.
You'll delight in a wine-tasting session, accompanied by cheese and crackers, from the award-winning Bream Creek Winery. Established in 1973, Bream Creek is one of Tasmania's oldest wineries. The wines are hand-crafted to capitalize on the flavors that originate from predominantly old vines, enabling the winery to produce robust, cool-climate Tasmanian wines.
Your journey continues to Eaglehawk Neck, the slender isthmus connecting the Tasman Peninsula with mainland Tasmania. The only way out of Port Arthur Penal Colony, this long, narrow neck was heavily patrolled from 1830 to 1877 by guards and ferocious dogs -- all part of a strict security system designed to prevent convicts from escaping. Explore the old officers' barracks and wander along the famous dog line. Marvel at the flat expanse of "tiled" rock known as the Tessellated Pavement, which appears manmade but is, in fact, a rare result of erosion.
Notes:
Tour requires walking 5-10 minutes from the ship to the vehicle and walking on tour at a moderate pace on even and uneven terrain, including steps and inclines. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Please note the wine tasting is not held at the winery, but at Lufra Hotel, overlooking Pirates Bay. Tour does not operate on holidays. Corkage policy: Wine purchased on this tour is exempt from the on-board corkage fee (offer limited to one bottle of wine per person).
