Travel from the port to the Tangolunda Bay district -- home to deluxe hotels and fashionable housing estates. A photo stop affords excellent pics from a fabulous vantage point.
At La Crucecita, you'll visit the quaint new town and emerging resort area. Spend an hour independently browsing through the bustling market and stores of the central plaza.
Visit the Arts & Crafts Museum -- a venue with a vast array of Oaxaca crafts made and sold by local artisans. Learn how they make the famous Teotitlan del Valle rugs from scratch, from carding wool fibers to dyeing them with natural ingredients and weaving them on antique looms. Sample chocolate, mole, cheese, mescal, and even grasshoppers if you're brave enough.
From La Entrega Viewpoint, take photos of the ship, the beach and the coral reef.
Notes:
Due to local traffic restrictions, the coach parks about a half mile from the church and the plaza; participants must be comfortably able to walk that distance round trip at a moderate pace. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
