Board an air-conditioned motor coach for a narrated drive through Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city, founded by Alexander the Great. Visit Fort Qait Bay whose medieval fortress guards Alexandria’s eastern harbor and was built on the ruins of Faros Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Next, visit the Roman Amphitheater featuring 13 tiers of seats in European marble, columns of green marble from Asia Minor, and mosaic paving. With seating for 800 spectators, the theater was reportedly an ancient concert or athletic venue.
Before returning to the pier, visit the Library of Alexandria. This remarkable facility is not just a library - it is a stunning integrated cultural complex incorporating libraries, museums, exhibition areas, educational centers and an international conference facility. Its goal is to cross the frontiers of history and meet the challenges of the 21st century, and it is already an admired research institution.
