Board a local charter boat at the pier and begin your day with a journey along the east coast of Nosy Be to Ampanngoriana village, skirting the Lokobe evergreen forest.

Upon arrival, head ashore by dinghy and walk through this fishing village on your way to the Black Lemur Sanctuary. You'll have time to browse for souvenirs and mingle with the locals along the way. At the sanctuary, learn how to spot the males and females as you watch them climbing and lounging in the trees. Fruit treats will be provided should you wish to feed the lemurs, but don't be surprised if they want to jump onto your arm or shoulder -- they are quite friendly and comfortable with humans. The animals have always enjoyed the protection offered by the villagers, and today the sanctuary greatly benefits the economy of this tiny settlement.

Next, head to the Madiro open-air snack bar for a treat of your own. Take a seat by the beach, under the shade of a tamarind tree, and enjoy the great view of Lokobe Natural Reserve and the surrounding isles. As you rest, Sakalava women will demonstrate their tablecloth embroidery technique and the village children will perform a traditional show for you.

Conclude your day with some free time to stroll on the beach, browse for souvenirs in the village, or even take a swim .
