Marodoka, Lemurs & Ylang Ylang
Information not currently available.
Approximately 4 Hours
Relax and enjoy a slow panoramic drive to Marodoka village, located on the eastern side of town. You'll have time to snap some photos along the way.
Marodoka represents the vestiges of an old Arab-Indian village built in the 7th century. The huge banyan trees found here are a legacy of the Arabian, Indian and Swahili traders that made their fortunes in this once-lively commercial hub. Watch a traditional dance performance, incorporating Indian, Arabian and Sakalava influences, performed by the women of the village.
Next, visit Lemur Land. This is a private reserve where you can meet chameleons, snakes, birds and lemurs -- some of which are endemic to Madagascar.
At a nearby ylang-ylang distillery, discover how the essential oil is extracted from this beautiful local flower to make many of the finest perfumes in the world. A refreshment will be served here.
En route back to Andoany, you'll stop at a souvenir market to browse among woodcarvings, embroidery, and handmade baskets.
