Here's an immersive, authentic culinary experience that has a heart -- part of the proceeds from your tour go toward helping feed locals and train youth in need.

Atlanta native Dwight Turner is a Bangkok-based chef and food blogger who is transforming the lives of locals through his company, the Courageous Kitchen. There are many cooking classes and market tours in Bangkok; what is unique about the Courageous Kitchen is that part of the proceeds benefit local children and their families and help to train disadvantaged youth in the art of cooking. Plus, it's a great way to get an insider's look at this exciting Asian capital.

This immersive morning or afternoon experience starts with a visit to a local market in a residential neighborhood of Bangkok. During the market tour, you will see, touch and taste the flavors of Thailand. Meet vendors selling all sorts of vegetables, meat, freshly-pressed coconut milk, and colorful flowers. Later, you will stop at a street stall for a traditional snack before bringing your discoveries back to Dwight's own kitchen to begin cooking.

During the hands-on cooking class, you'll learn to make dishes such as Pad Thai (the famous noodle dish), Tom Kha Kai coconut soup, and fried pork with basil leaves (dishes may vary seasonally). Throughout the process, you will see how Asian spices can be combined to create delicious flavors and you will learn the basics of home-style Thai cooking. You'll get to eat the dishes you made and finish off the meal with a delicious Thai dessert.

Take copies of the recipes so that you can make your creations back at home.
