Take a Zodiac ride around the pohutukawa-forested shores of Motuhoa Island. This is the ideal chance to spot plenty of local birdlife -- waders, terns and other avian species. The Bay of Plenty offers a lush, productive landscape as well as plentiful fish in its cool waters, attracting many pelagic and coastal bird species. Watch for oystercatchers, nesting cormorants, white-fronted terns, dotterels, godwits, turnstones, gulls and even swans.

Bring bottled water, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Dress in layers; it can be cool on the water. Bring a waterproof jacket and suitable camera protection. Minimum age is 6 years. Tour operates weather permitting. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
