Approximately 4½ Hours
Nestled beside Gram Stream, Gram Castle presides over one of the largest organic farms in Denmark. The castle and its grounds are a remarkable testament to history, architecture, culture, nature and tenacity.
In 2007, the current owners Sanne and Svend Brodersen bought the estate with a vision to continuously develop Gram Castle as a sustainable estate. They care for the natural resources as well as for those employed on the land. The couple strives to make every visitor feel at home, with the positive energy and the warmth that are their hallmarks.
Upon your arrival at the castle, either Sanne or Svend will greet you with a warm welcome to their estate. (S)he will be your guide throughout your visit and, as this is their home, no-one can offer a better insight into the premises. Hear their personal story of how they bought the estate, re-branded and set about re-identifying themselves, implementing new strategies among suppliers and staff in order to make a profitable business.
Your tour begins with the castle itself. Dating back to approximately 1470, the stately manor has had many owners throughout the course of history. Different noble families, and even royalty, have called this manor their own. Check out the downstairs wine cellar and kitchens, which have changed greatly in the past 100 years. Upstairs, as you pass through the grand rooms, you will learn more about the owners and their vision.
Step outside to explore the grounds and the surrounding buildings. The barn has been refurbished to host large events and concerts; an old silo is to open as the latest addition to the hotel division, and the old stables serves as a fully-organic café and shop, where you can buy locally-produced goods.
Sanne and/or Svend will invite you to enjoy a local treat -- the famous cake buffet of Southern Jutland.
Nothing at Gram Castle is left to chance -- the eye for detail is incredible. Sanne and Svend believe in a sustainable lifestyle and, with the purchase of Gram Castle and their growing business, they have succeeded in combining their private life with a successful public business where a love for nature and the people around them stands the very core.
Please note: Participants must be able to climb three flights of stairs at Gram Castle. There are uneven surfaces and cobblestoned areas throughout the castle grounds. The snack is not suitable for vegans.
