Approximately 3¾ Hours
Tender ashore to Bantry and board a motor coach for a scenic drive through some of the southernmost towns in Ireland. This area is renowned its rugged landscapes and ancient heritage. A drive along parts of "the Mizen" gives you the chance to immerse yourself in the various strands that make Mizen Head unique -- from geology, flora, birds and fauna to the influence of man and human history on the landscape.
Heading south, you will pass through the sleepy town of Durrus. As you approach Toormore, your guide will point out the Altar Dolmen neolithic tomb, and the Bronze-Age Wedge Tomb in the grounds of a local restaurant. The nearby Altar Church was built during the Irish Potato Famine.
You'll stop in Schull for some free time to explore this small but very attractive and lively town. Nestled between the foothills of Mount Gabriel and the harbor, Schull is one of the most popular resorts in West Cork and is popular with visiting yachtsmen. This is a great place to search out a ceramic sculpture or other local souvenir. This corner of Ireland prides itself on a wealth of excellent cafés -- you're welcome to seek one out (at your own expense).
Re-board the motor coach and drive through Ballydehob, which takes its name from the Irish phrase meaning 'the ford at the mouth of two rivers'. This colorful little village is the home to many artists. You will return to the busy market town of Bantry and your waiting ship.
Suitable for guests using a wheelchair with a companion to assist.
