The prima donna islands of Malta have starred in many a mega-hit movies. See set locations as they are today through the imaginative minds of Steven Spielberg and Kevin Reynolds.
Begin in Valletta with panoramic drive to Upper Barakka Gardens, where you will view the Grand Harbour in all it splendor--the perfect setting for action and romance. Your movie-buff guide will point out locations where Midnight express, The Count of Monte Cristo, and Munich were filmed.
Next, walk down St Ursula Street and up to the St Barbara Bastions to the Siege Bell. Across the harbor’s breakwater, you will see Fort Rinella--location of the coliseum from Gladiator and city scenes from Troy.
Leave the harbor and walk up to Merchant’s Street, past Oliver Reed’s last pub.
Then, re-board your vehicle and head to the Game of Thrones church in Gzira. The Great Sept of Baelor was used in countless scenes including the wedding of King Joffrey Baratheon to Margaery Tyrell.
Back on the coach, you’ll travel to Rabat to see the town’s main square which was a set location for Munich.
Proceed on foot to the fortress town and former capital city of Mdina, used as a movie location several adventure and action blockbusters. Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize several different lanes that featured in King’s Landing, such as Copper Street. Take time walking through the lavrinthine streets and capture magnificent views from the fort before heading back to the ship.
Tour requires extensive walking over uneven surfaces, including stairs. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or those with mobility limitations. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and sunscreen. Use of an audio headset (include) will enhance your tour experience.
