Begin your scenic Bequia tour with a pre-paid taxi drive, taking you through parts of Port Elizabeth -- the island’s only town.
Head up Mt Pleasant, which offers a marvelous view of your ship, the surrounding Grenadine islands and the wider Caribbean Sea. This must-see view is quite breathtaking.
Along the Atlantic Coast, with its alternating ocean views and beautiful roadside floral scenery, you will find the Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary. Orton G. King, owner of this sanctuary, has spent most of his life tending to his precious and endangered Hawksbill turtles.
Listen to King spin tales of these ancient inhabitants of the deep. The difference between a tortoise and a turtle? Just ask -- along with any other questions you may have. Find out how to join the conservation effort if you wish.
The quaint town of Port Elizabeth beckons you to explore -- don’t miss the vegetable market and souvenir stalls where brightly colored items wave happily in the breeze.
The rest of the time is your own to enjoy this area -- your tour ends here, within 35 yards of the ship’s tender pier.
Ride will be bumpy in places. Souvenirs can be purchased at the turtle sanctuary. Your driver will do his/her best to speak English, but please keep in mind that the limited tourism infrastructure of Bequia is part of the island’s charm, and bear with any language difficulties he/she may encounter.
