This soft adventure outing is fun for all ages. A one-hour transfer brings you to an elephant village in Pattaya. The facility opened in 1973 as a sanctuary for former working elephants that can no longer be used for heavy work in the jungles of Thailand due to injury or health problems. Set out on an hour-long elephant ride on the back of a majestic beast, through undeveloped rural areas and past pineapple, tapioca and rubber plantations. Then, continue with a 20-minute jungle walk to a silk house, where mahouts work on raw silk processing and weaving on traditional handlooms. Next up is a 20-minute ferry transfer across a local lake before you return to the Elephant Village. After a sumptuous lunch, watch the elephant show, which demonstrates the interaction between animals and humans, as the jumbos engage in forestry skills training. You will be amazed at the power and precision of these gigantic beasts as they haul heavy objects, and be equally entertained by the clowning around of both young and old elephants as they take their daily bath. The show concludes with an elephant dressed in ancient war regalia for you to photograph. Return to the port, where you will have an opportunity to shop for fine silk and gems.
