Tour the historic city of Santa Clara, centrally located in Cuba's heartland. Journey to this city that was founded in 1689 by former residents of the coastal region of San Juan de los Remedios.

Among the important monuments of the city is the mausoleum and museum of Communist icon Ernesto Che Guevara -- right-hand man of Castro and a powerful revolutionary in his own right. Visit the tiny Armored Train Museum -- homage to Guevara's cutthroat tactics -- and the more pacifist-in-nature Monument to Pope John Paul II.

A panoramic drive takes you through the Old Town to acquaint you with the city. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.

Then embrace the experience that is the 'Grandparents Party' -- Los Abuelos de Fiesta. This is a community project that encourages seniors to share their immense cultural knowledge by passing it on to younger Cubans, teaching them how to do the danzón -- a typical Cuban dance step -- as well as other traditional Cuban dances and games. You will be invited to join in and practice with them!

Notes:

Actual tour duration may vary from 6 to 7 hours as the ship has to navigate the narrow channel to and from the anchorage during daylight hours.

Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Walking is required on uneven ground. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Tour times are estimates and may be subject to change. Tours may run in different order to provide the best experience.

The community project associated with this tour is included to promote further understanding and interaction with the Cuban people. As is the fluid nature of community projects in Cuba, the location and type of community project visited may vary to provide the best experience for our guests.
