Departing from Cap Cana Pier, you will travel by air-conditioned coach to Altos de Chavon. This charming replica 17th-century Mediterranean village, created in the 1970s, is based on an idea by Charles Bludhorn and a design by Roberto Coppa. Wander through the cobblestone streets, admire the village, and enjoy the lovely panoramic view of the Chavon River. In the heart of Altos de Chavon you'll visit a world-renown school of design. You'll also see the beautiful St Stanislaus Church; the Regional Archaeological Museum -- one of the most complete in the Caribbean; and small, old-style shops offering locally-made ceramics, crafts and semi-precious stones.
In addition, the village contains a 5,000-seat amphitheater in the natural landform offered by the terrain's depression. It has staged performances by international superstars such as Frank Sinatra, Julio Iglesias and Sting.
At the riverbank, board a Mississipi-style paddleboat for a scenic cruise along the Chavon River. This is where Apocalypse Now was shot. Enjoy a beverage while you listen to some typical Dominican music. Feel like dancing? Just do it!
A change of scene brings you to the Casa de Campo Marina. Use your free time here to purchase lunch or a coffee (at your own expense) before you head back to Cap Cana and the ship.
Minimum age is 8 years. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
