A one-hour drive on the highway, through typical Flemish countryside, brings you to the center of Ghent. This dynamic modern city has an Old Town straight out of the Middle Ages. It was weavers from Ghent, joined by others from Bruges, who took up arms to defeat the French in 1302.

Begin your walking tour at St Michael's Bridge, with its view of Ghent's three glorious medieval steeples. The closest is that of the early-Gothic St Nicolas Church. Behind it is the Belfry dating from 1314, and in the background rises the honey-colored tower of St Bavo's Cathedral.

As lovely as Ghent is, perhaps the highlight of this excursion will be a visit to the chocolate factory. A Belgian chocolatier will show you how chocolate bars are made, using only the finest, freshest, carefully selected ingredients.

Purchase delicious Belgian chocolates or enjoy some free time for shopping to find the perfect souvenir.
