Ghent's city center is straight out of the Middle Ages. It was weavers from Ghent, joined by others from Bruges, who took up arms to defeat the French in 1302. A scenic one-hour drive takes you along the highway passing the typical Flemish countryside, arriving at the medieval city of Ghent.

Step out with your guide on a walking tour starting at St Michael's bridge, where you will have an impressive view of the historic city center. See the Old Port with its gabled guild houses, the age-old Castle of the Counts, and the famous row of three towers -- St Nicolas Church, Belfry Tower and St Bavo's Cathedral.

As impressive as Ghent is, perhaps the highlight of your excursion will be a visit to a chocolate factory. A Belgian chocolatier will show you how chocolate bars are made, using only the finest, freshest and carefully selected ingredients. There will be an opportunity to purchase delicious Belgian chocolates.

Make the most of some free time for shopping to find the perfect souvenir.
