Take your seat aboard a newly-restored wagon of the historic Pacific Railroad -- once used to transport the country's valuable coffee harvest from the highlands to its coastal ports.

You will travel back in time and deep into Costa Rica's culture on this guided train ride through small towns and incredible rural scenery. Throughout the journey, large windows and great photo opportunities contribute to your experience of Costa Rica's countryside.

Leave the train at a small village famous for its tropical orchards. Here, you will board a motorcoach and head to the Tárcoles River. You will have a chance to purchase a delicious snack or a cold drink (at your own expense) at a typical Costa Rican mini-market; then, hop onto a riverboat.

Cruising through four different types of mangroves, you'll discover that this area of Costa Rica's habitat is teeming with exotic birds -- ospreys, gulls, cormorants, pelicans and frigate birds are some of the most common species seen on the delta. The riverbanks are home to some of the largest crocodile colonies, with some crocs up to ten feet long. Iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards, and many birds such as herons, egrets and ducks search for tasty morsels along the riverbanks.

On the ride back to the ship, you will stop at El Jardín to browse in the souvenir shop. Sample delicious tropical fruit or taste a cup of freshly-brewed Costa Rican coffee to the beat of live marimba music .
