Get to the heart of Oaxaca on this off-the-beaten-track excursion that will give you a glimpse into the cultural roots of Mexico. You’ll head into the residential communities adjacent to the Huatulco resort area, learning about their authentic cultural and social characteristics, and getting acquainted with local habits and customs.

Visit four small communities, stopping three times along the way at some local homes. Watch the process of hand-making tortillas and tamales, and discover a wide variety of edible and medicinal plants. At a low-growth caducifolia jungle tree nursery, you'll find an devoted to the cultivation of nopales -- a healthy and tasty cactus used in marmalades, soups, stews and salad. The cactus produces prickly pears. You’ll have the opportunity to try this cactus and its fruit in some different forms of preparation.


Minimum age is 6 years. Wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
