Discover the heart of Oaxaca on this off-the-beaten-track excursion offering a glimpse of the cultural roots of Mexico. You'll head into the residential communities adjacent to the Huatulco resort area to get acquainted with local habits and customs.

Visit four small communities, stopping three times along the way at some local homes. Watch the process of hand-making tortillas and tamales, and discover a wide variety of edible and medicinal plants.

At a low-growth caducifolia jungle tree nursery, you'll learn about the cultivation of nopales. Nopales is a tasty cactus that also produces prickly pears. Try the cactus and its fruit (in season) in different forms of preparation, which may include marmalades, soups, stews and salad.


Minimum age is 6 years. Wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants and comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat, biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent.
